We flew first class from AA STL to Charlotte and then from Charlotte to Jacksonville. We picked up the rental car from Avis and drove straight to St. Augustine.
It was crazy crowded….and we drove around looking for a place to park. We finally parked in the Tourism center. It was $12….and well worth it. We went inside to check out available things to do.
We decided to take a carriage ride around the city. The cost was $85….and lasted 45 minutes…and was worth every penny. The horse was baby girl….and draft mix. She was a bit cantankerous…which disappointed me…because I really wanted a kiss… But she did a great job in the traffic. St. Augustine is a beautiful city…chalk full of history. We left the carriage and went to the Castillo de San Marcos. It was $10 pp to tour. The views of the city and the waterfront were amazing.
We decided to eat at Harry’s Seafood bar and grill. We had a 35-minute wait. We sat on the patio with a great view of the water. We shared the crab cake appetizer. We both ordered a salad and we both had the shrimp creole entrée. The serving sizes were large. We love shrimp creole…and have had it in NOLA many times…. but this one wins for the spiciest. I just could not eat it. It was good…. but too hot for me.
We went back to the car and drove the hour back to Jacksonville to check into the Hilton Garden. We had room 419…which is a nice simple room. There is a high-pitched sound…that comes and goes…and I never did figure out where it was coming from. We got a glass of wine from the restaurant and then went to bed. It had been a very long day and we did a lot of walking so we were tired.
